"Speed of Sound" - Coldplay

Guy1: "You how I know you're gay?"

Guy2: "yeah how?"

Guy1: "You're gay because you listen to Coldplay...".

These words are some of the famous lines I remember from the movie "The 40-Year Old Virgin"... a discussion about how to know if a person is gay or not.  And it involved Coldplay.

But this is not the way how I remembered this British band.  It was way back 2007 in the mountainous place of the Cordillera Region in the northern part of the Philippines where the mentioned band started to stay permanently in the music archive of my choosy ears.

My friends and I were on our way home to Batangas from this wondrous enchanted place called Sagada and to keep me entertained in this pretty-long time of travel, I had my celphone prepared with its mp3 player to keep me company.  Coldplay's song "Speed of Sound" timely played while we were routing this scary, zigzag and cliffy road and the guitar intro of the song somehow added to the "flying" feeling of that moment.  The zigzag road really made me dizzy and Coldplay made me calm out of my motion sickness and acrophobia.
This small, sleepy town of Sagada is nestled high in the Cordillera Mountains and considered as "The Shangri-La of the Philippines".

This doesn't mean that I like Coldplay I am gay.  I like the band but I don't like all of their songs.  I like "Speed of Sound"... when I hear the song, I think of the breezy Sagada.  A place so beautiful, it could make you cry (oops, that sure sounds girly...).

"I Miss You" - Blink 182 (Hello There!...)

In the year 2000, the band Blink 182 stormed the alternative rock scene in the Philippines and as a person who looks into music as a borderless and continuously growing form of art, Blink's loudness really caught my taste too.  The song "I Miss You" by this band was released in the market in 2003 but only in 2007 that I realized that this song can be used as a "senti" (sentimental) tool for someone who is missing the person who he or she unexpectedly values most.

The song was introduced to me by a girl named Jane.  She's also from Batangas here in the Philippines and because in the year 2007 the mp3 technology was only starting to boom, lending earphones were pretty common in sharing the music an individual is interested with to his or her friend.  As I can remember, she shared the song to me through her other pair of earphone and I guess that started why and how I got interested to this girl that every time I hear "I Miss You"'s drum intro followed by its distinctive bass pattern, it really makes me, guess what... miss her!

For the record, missing her made me realize, despite our differences in many ways, how much I love her.  After five years of our "happy love", she decided for us to part ways.  And because in my heart she really is my one true love, I stubbornly decided to come back.  Come what may...

I am always missing her and always loving her.

Maybe this message will take awhile for her to read because she's only a seldom user of the internet, but if ever she reads this, I really hope that she gets the message my heart is trying to tell her.

Truly, after overhearing this Blink 182 song on TV, I am convinced that this really is a "Senti" tool.  I am a 95-kilo and overweight (rated as an "obese 2"..oh my!) grown man and I never expected to be sentimental just because of such an emotional low-toned song from a band whose reputation was not that too good in those days.  But in fairness to them, "I Miss You" is one of the best songs of the 2000's.

"RUNAWAY" - The Corrs

This is my first post for this blog.

Ready to run... away...
Earlier today, I heard this music from the Irish band called The Corrs. The song is called "Runaway" which was released worldwide way back 1995 but still conquered the Philippine airwaves in the early 2000's. This is quite memorable for me because of my being a late bloomer in having relationships. Maybe because of my many insecurities in different aspects, I had become a hopeless romantic when it comes to courting or making a move towards girls I am attracted with.

Now here's the story about our topic song. There was this girl in Sto.Tomas, Batangas in the Philippines who I courted because of her being attractive in many ways, her being cute, her pretty hands, her interest to music, her cool singing voice, etc., etc... I once visited her at their house and we had chats, we listened to music and even sang together.

Now here's the part of where you have to brace yourselves, when she sang "Runaway", she did some alterations to the words and I thought she really made a mistake singing the song.

Instead of singing this line:

"I would runaway, yeah..., yeah I would runaway (runaway) I would runaway WITH you..,"

She deliberately sang the song this way:

"I would runaway, yeah..., yeah I would runaway (runaway) I would runaway FROM you..,"

I had noticed that "FROM" is pretty way different from "WITH"... I realized that the courting is over and I got her message.  It's time for me to runaway..

That CORRs song was immortalized.
